# Starting a Device

Once you’ve created a device and made sure it’s on the same network as Koios, try to [test the device](/v1/docs/testing-a-device) to ensure connectivity. If the device is testing successfully, use the status bar or detail dropdown to pull up the [control popup](/v1/docs/control-popup)and enable the device. At this point, the device will attempt to connect inside of the Data Collector service, and if there is a failure, the device will continue to attempt to reconnect while giving you error messages to review on the device detail page.
