Device Detail

A device’s detail page gives you access to all a device’s information and actions. Below we will go into further detail about what each tab and section means.

General Tab

Status Banner

The status banner is located at the top of the general section. This is your key indication of the state of the device. The banner will change colors and give the current status text as well as a detailed error message upon a device failure.

The status bar can also be clicked to give a shortcut to the control popup.

Scan Diagnostics

When a device is enable, the scan diagnostics section will appear just below the status banner. This gives insight into the number of device overscans and the device’s average execution time. An overscan is when the device does not complete it’s task within the allowed scan rate window. If a significant amount of overscans are appearing, consider slowing down the scan rate or investigating the network for speed issues.

General Settings

Next, the general settings section overview settings that are not unique to any particular protocol. Most importantly, the device scan rate, which sets the time interval that the device should attempt to read and write at. At the bottom of general settings, is a link to update these general settings along with the name and description of the device.

Scan Times

At the bottom of the general tab, is a chart showing the last 10 minutes of scan times. This can be useful for troubleshooting connection issues as well as showing general device performance.

Protocol Specific Tab

The second tab will dynamically update based on which protocol this device is using. For example, if a device is an OPC-UA device, the tab will be named “OPC-UA” and you will be shown a list of OPC-UA Settings as shown below. Clicking the link at the bottom of this section will take you to a protocol specific form to update this device’s settings.

For a more detailed explantation of protocol specific parameters, go to the pages under the Creating a Device subfolder.
